Blog Post #11

You ever wonder is it possible to bring back extinct animals of Earth’s past? Well with today’s advanced technology we have access to such tools to clone or modify genetic genes of DNA & RNA coding. We are able to harness the power to change the biological blueprints that make all living things look different from each other. With this power to replicate any living cell or creature in existence we can use this power to be able to use cloning to practically make anything. The reason why this is such a huge accomplishment is that we can manipulate life which means we can create any thing literally anything. We could use this power as a way to create new life to benefit or use this technology to be used for biomedical research, technology, and engineering. With the capability of being able to manipulate life we could use it to our advantage. One of the main advantages is that most diseases that we deem “incurable” can now be cured with this technology. Since Cloning technology allows us to manipulate life, it wouldn’t be hard to simply make the disease destroy itself completely without further causing harm to the host of the disease. This form of medical care could possibly eradicate all of the world’s infectious diseases at once. This would eliminate all the unnecessary research that is being wasted on trying to find cures for diseases. This would be the future of health care and a huge jump in technological accomplishments that would forever change the medical industry.

The article of which this topic talks about is the riots of the U.S. and how they are started, contained, and ended. In the midst of racial tension in America it is widely believed that the causes of theses riots are because of police brutality caused by racial profiling and racism in general. The U.S. is literally the only country that has violent protests due to these fatal shootings and encounters with policemen on African Americans.

The article talks about a very controversial topic, cloning. The ability to be able to create two of the same organisms with very little if not no differences at all. Cloning has a natural occurrence in nature as bacteria is asexual and reproduces with itself making differences not at all different. But humans have used their knowledge of cloning and used it for food production in the world. It can also be used for medicine production. The first animal ever cloned was a mammal in the 1970’s. The practice is thought to be able to bring back extinct animals of the world. One specimen that can be used in doin that is a frozen carcass of any select animal and using the dna in its tissues.

Airport TSA security is a custom that every airline passenger goes through. The job of airport security is to make sure no weapons are brought onboard a plane. The practice has been used since commercial flight started in the 30’s. Without the TSA there would be a more likelihood of aircraft getting hijacked and held for ransom or worse possibly a terrorist act. The TSA airport security completely destroys the risk of attack on a commercial plane from the inside. The procedures the TSA have done over the years compared to now makes a whole leap in technology and intelligence to mitigate the risk of a terror attempt/ attack

The Effect of Music on Humans

Music has been involved in human history for thousands of years and it’s popularity overtime has grew exponentially ever since the 20th century. The popular audio form of art reason for its popularity is because of humans. We like listening to sounds that make us feel happy and when we hear such sounds we tend to keep listening to those sounds because of chemicals released by the brain which is connected to happiness and euphoria when these emotions are released while an individual is listening to a song they like it causes it to be a connection between the two.

The impact of music on people is huge and complex and even the region of the specific music genre has a impact on the musical background of the area. The special thing about music is that it isn’t only made by one set group of people it is made by people all over the world which is the reason for its diversity in genres and cultures. If this form of art was to only be made by one set of people the level of different ethnics and cultures and genres would not develop or begin.

The ways of how music is performed is different depending on the genre and culture of the song. An example of this is the performance of opera and performance of hip/hop. Opera’s are usually performed at a large theater with a crowd of dressed up spectators sitting down, listening to the entire show to finish. Hip/hop on the other hand is the opposite. The show is usually performed loud in front of a large group of spectators with loud energy and excitement. If an opera show tried to perform like a hip/hop show the viewers would not like the show at all because it is not the style they like.

Different people are effected differently from others with different types of music and sounds from tracks heard by different people. Some music that is listened by different people have different varying effects on the brain. Music is directly linked to dopamine being released by the brain to change mood or feeling. It can be used during therapy to calm the brain and relax the body. Music has many uses and purposes and different styles and genres of music.

Does the human body replace itself every 7 years?

The human body is a very complex structure with soo many functions and features that is useful for the human to live comfortably. But just like a vehicle, humans also replace their parts to continue to work at the best possible way. People can replace their body by purposefully getting surgery or letting nature take its course by replacing your body’s cells slowly 1 by 1. This slow process of throwing away old cells in the body and replacing them with new cells keeps the body up and running at its best 24/7.

Different cells in the human body all have different life spans . For example red blood cells in the body can live for months until they die from being too old. White blood cells on the other hand can live up to a year before it dies. As one cell dies there is another cell produced to take the previous cell’s place in the body. All bones in the body also have bone cells that die off and replace themselves every 7 years to make better bone quality in the body and less chance of breaking a bone. On average most skin cells only last for 2-3 weeks until they die and fall off the skin.

So when it’s said that the body replaces itself it does it in a way that doesn’t completely get rid of a limb for a new one since humans don’t grow back missing limbs and organs etc. The cells of the specific body part all die and are replaced with new cells which is why the art is considered brand new this entire process is done for the entire body in 7 years depending on your daily activities. After the cells are all replaced that specific part of the body is better than the last.

The Valentine’s Day Origin Mystery

The origin of Valentine’s Day is not 100% known exactly how the holiday came around. There are so many stories to which none of them are 100% proven to be true. What is the Origin/history of Valentine’s Day? There are several historical versions of the origin and history of this widely celebrated holiday. All of which have basically the same story line and same major events in the stories. The Valentines Day origin story that is most appealing to me from my sources is “The History of Valentine’s Day”.

Valentine’s Day started off as a Roman holiday as the saint St. Valentine was killed by the ruler at the time, Emperor Claudius ll. St. Valentine wasn’t killed by Claudius himself but Claudius ordered the execution of St. Valentine for going against the law in Rome. The specific rule Valentine was going against was a rule of law that Claudius put in place because he figured that single men fought better in wars than married men. So he placed a rule basically restricting young men under a certain age to get married.

St. Valentine thought the right thing to do was to continue to carry out secret marriages to couples who were under the restricted age to marry. Soon Claudius found out about this and swiftly had St. Valentines executed for his “crimes”. The Holiday was accepted but with the slow rise of Christianity at the time the Lupercalia was soon outlawed and deemed “un-Christian”. Now the holiday is celebrated by all people of all ethnic groups and religions and is always celebrated on the 14th of every February of every year.

Valentine’s Day also offers a mythical being called Cupid. Cupid would shoot his heart shaped bow and arrow at anybody, making them fall in love with one another. Cupid was not always in the Valentine’s day holiday but was later made a symbolic figure of the Fall Holiday. Cupid is from greek mythology who is the son of venus.

Wrestling’s roots

Artist creations from around 3000 BCE in Babylonia. The art piece was an image depicting the sport of wrestling being carried out in Babylonia. This could be the place where wrestling was created. Wrestling around this time and era was like a life or death sport where the competitors sometimes fought to the death to become the winner in the match. Whoever won the match of the game would proceed on to the next competitor to win the tournament and so on. The winner would be named the strongest of all the competitors. In some cases the loser would be sacrificed.

The fact that the wrestling drawings have been found out in caves may have the evidence it needs to be proven that it is the worlds oldest running sport. Without these drawings there are no other evidence out there to date wrestling back as far back as 3000 BCE. And the drawings are a huge reliable legit piece of evidence to answer how old the sport of wrestling may be. And the sport continues to be popular to this day. The sport of wrestling is widely known to people across the world which is why the sport is still so popular after all the years. It is played in grade schools across the world and even in college and professional wrestling.

The creator of the lightbulb

Many of people of the modern world believes that Thomas Edison is the creator of the light bulb. But that statement is purely false. Thomas Edison didn’t create the light bulb but he bought the patent of the light bulb from the original inventors of the device. Joseph Swan was the person to actually come up with the idea and first prototype of the light bulb. So why is Edison considered the inventor? It’s because Edison purchased the patent from the inventor Joseph Swan and improved on the model. So there’s 2 versions of the lightbulb one being Joseph Swan’s model and Thomas Edison’s model.

The model of the lightbulb Edison created was much more efficient and effective than the model made by the inventor Joseph Swan. Thomas Edison’s model was better in the time it lasted, illumination capabilities, and lower power usage for lower power bills around the house. The lightbulb was an invention by Joseph Swan but was not really popular until the modifications and tweaks were made to the device by Thomas Edison. Without those mods being implemented into the device, the lightbulb would still probably be a low success invention.

Without both of the people who worked on the light bulb there would be no usage of the devices to begin with. The idea of the lightbulb would’ve been gone without Joseph Swan and the better bulb would be gone if Thomas Edison never touched the patent of the lightbulb. Without these 2 people in history the lightbulb would not be used like it is today.

The forgotten candidate George Edwin Taylor

The 21st century has introduced many new achievements for the United States. In 2008 the first African American was elected president. But he wasn’t the first African American to run for office. In 1904 an African American presidential candidate by the name of George Edwin Taylor ran for office as a third party candidate of the National Negro Liberty Party.

Taylor was born in 1857 to a free mother and a enslaved father in Little Rock, Arkansas. Already at a disadvantage for being black Edwin did not let that stop him for running in office for the 1904 presidential election. He didn’t campaign as a democratic or republican president as he found out none of their interests were in colored people. So he campaigned as part of the NNLP (National Negro Liberty Party) which is an all African American independent party. The NNLP nominated Taylor as their candidate to run for office.

With George Edwin Taylor keeping in mind that his chances of being elected was low, he kept pushing and giving his best efforts during his campaign. No matter what obstacles that he encountered he kept moving forward like nothing was holding him back. George Edwin Taylor ultimately lost the 1904 presidential election to Theodore Roosevelt.

Donald Trump and Andrew Johnson impeachments

With the current relevant news of the impeachment trial against Donald Trump in the media this wouldn’t be the first time the United States has impeached a president. That president is Andrew Johnson(Dem. 17th) in 1868. Andrew Johnson was from the south as Lincoln was from the north. He use to be the Vice President but became president because of President Lincoln’s assassination barley into his second term as president. Donald Trump (Rep. 45th)  became president because he was originally elected president by the people of the U.S. in 2016 as Hillary Clinton (Dem.) lost the election. As both presidents were impeached at different time periods of the U.S. let’s see how similar or different the impeachments were. Andrew Johnson was impeached because of political conflict and the outbreak of ideologies in the aftermath of the civil war and violating the Tenure of Office Act (A U.S. federal law that was intended to restrict the power of the president to remove certain office holders without approval of the Senate. Donald Trump is being impeached for abusing the power of his presidency by withholding military aid to pressure Volodymyr Zelensky (newly elected President of Ukraine) to investigate the conspiracy theory that Ukraine was interfering in the 2016 presidential election.

Both presidents were impeached because of some type of abuse of their powers as president. And both presidents removed office holders (A.J. did this while violating TOA Act) Andrew Johnson wasn’t removed from office after his impeachment. He still wanted slavery in the South and he vetoed a bill to help free slaves after the Civil War was over with the North winning leaving the South in ruins. Andrew Johnson should’ve been deleted from office after his actions after the war. (D.T. Did this without violating the Act). Donald Trump will most likely lose the election if his primary voters in the 2016 election change their views on him after his impeachment trial. Because people do not want a president that abuses their power over another country strictly for his own gain/pride. I don’t think he will be removed from the White House, but his chances of being elected again is severely damaged because of this fact. The amount of people that voted for him in 2016 will not vote form him in 2020.

Public University student Graduation Percentage

There is a abnormally big number of students across the U.S. that attend Universities that do not graduate at their desired or expected time. Less than 1/3 of all students that attend college will graduate. That means that in a classroom of 30 students only 10 of those students will graduate within 6 years.

Most students that are just starting college as freshmen are not really aware of this fact. This article on Cappex (https://www.cappex.com/articles/blog/government-publishes-graduation-rate-data) is a discussion about the percentage of college students who stay enrolled for their 2nd year(Sophomore year) of college and it’s only at 52%. That is a very big amount of students dropping out of school after their freshman year of college.

And also on top of that 48% of freshman starting at any year do not end up graduating college. That’s a huge waste of time and money. At Clark Atlanta university about 50% of students drop out of college by their sophomore year. But the article says that students who transfers to Chicago State College have a higher success percentage at graduating.

Most students that are a full time student usually graduate within six years. But that shouldn’t be the case for everybody. I strongly feel that if you are goin to college to learn and know exactly what you are going there for, the desire and willingness of the student determines if he or she will graduate on time or if he or she will drop out. Students have a better success rate not transferring to other universities and staying at the college they started their freshman year
